Beechworth lies about 2-3 hours north of Melbourne, in what can be called historical goldmining or Ned Kelly Country. The area's history is very interesting, and its early wealth produced some beuatiful buildings.

What we took - what was in our kit
I took my LowePro Backpack loaded with Canon 5DSR body, Canon 24-70mm zoom, 16-65mm zoom, Manfrotto 190 Tripod, and of course a range of lens wipes, spare batteries, sunscreen and bug repellant. I tended to shoot 16-40mm, so wide angled.
Jenny took a Canon 5DMkIII body with a Canon 24-105mm zoom.

The quickest drive is straight up the Hume to Wangarratta, where you turn right for 30km. If, like us, you have done the Hume many times, then you can travel up through Mansfield and the King Valley.

Beechworth is about 3 hours and 286km from Melbourne CBD, but depending upon where you live in Melbourne, this could be 2.5-3.5 hours.
